Announcing the triumphant return of this one of a kind concert experience in which an incredible lineup of more than eighteen of New Orleans’ finest working musicians celebrate the music of Joe Cocker and Leon Russell with a performance of their infamous 1970 live album, MAD DOGS AND ENGLISHMEN, in its entirety. Originally recorded at The Fillmore East, MD&E ranks as one of the most iconic rock and roll albums in history. Now, fifty one years later, the NOLA Mad Dogs Band will take the stage for the sixth time since Joe Cocker’s death in 2014 to pay raucous tribute to the indomitable singer. We are excited that this year's tribute will be held at Zony Mash Beer Project's new, beautiful, and spacious concert venue, located in New Orleans' historic Broadmoor neighborhood. The band will also perform several selections from Mr. Russel's solo catalogue. (RIP, Leon.) This event will also benefit the Makin’ Groceries Initiative. Launched in June 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Makin’ Groceries provides weekly, home-delivered care packages containing fresh groceries, healthy prepared meals, and lagniappe to a group of 100+ elderly and immunocompromised musicians, culture bearers, and their families to show gratitude and admiration for the profound influence they have had on our local culture. Makin’ Groceries is led by local musician and community health worker Arsène DeLay, produced by a network of local musicians, and designed in collaboration with the culture bearers served. Makin’ Groceries is an initiative of the New Orleans Musicians’ Assistance Foundation, which has spent the past 23 years solely focusing on providing direct healthcare services and initiatives to local musicians and culture bearers, regardless of ability to pay.
